SYDNEY FOX is a Professor of History at a traditional East Coast University. Her specialty is Ancient Civilizations, and she's an expert in the customs and myths of historic cultures throughout the world. Not just an academic, she is an explorer/adventurer who has traveled the world in search of lost icons, cities, and tombs. It is this vast knowledge of the arcane combined with her mastery of the martial arts that allows Sydney to take care of herself in the most dangerous of situations.

Sydney's father was a civil engineer, designing and building bridges, roads and structures the world over. He met his wife, a beautiful Asian woman, while working in the Far East, The family stayed in the East for a few years, but, tragically, Sydney's mother passed away when Sydney was quite young. After his wife's passing, Sydney's father decided it was time to start traveling again and took his little girl with him. Sydney became familiar with different cultures and languages, as well as the group of roughneck, adventurous men her father cavorted with, a few of whom she still encounters to this day. This "Hemingwayesque" crew encouraged her tomboy tendencies and her fascination with history and adventure. It was also during this time she began a lifelong study of Martial Arts, becoming proficient in many different styles from the cultures she lived in.

Sydney inherited her father's assertiveness and confidence, which enabled her to become so adventurous and successful. Unfortunately, this demeanor also intimidated most of the men Sydney was interested in, leaving her confused and unable to sustain a relationship.

Later, Sydney studied art history and ancient civilizations at the university where she now teaches. During one summer break, she visited her father at the site of one of his projects in the Middle East. While surveying, Mr. Fox inadvertently became trapped in a labyrinth of ancient burial chambers, protected by a gauntlet of deadly booby traps. Sydney's knowledge of ancient history was put to the test in practical application, and she passed with flying colors. Thus began her passion for a mix of adventure and history.

A passionate student, Sydney received her degree with high honors and went on to graduate studies, paying her way through school with more fascinating, often dangerous assignments. Eventually she became a professor of ancient history and continues to pursue her adventures around the world.

A dynamic teacher, Sydney's lectures are stimulating and unorthodox. From the re-enactment of a Mayan ritual human sacrifice to the staging of a violent Celtic swordfight, she brings history to life to the delight of her adoring students. Sydney's popularity, looks, figure, and brains do not always endear her to the rest of the faculty. The president of the university, Malcolm Morris, isn't sure how he feels about her personally. But he's willing to overlook any and all unorthodox procedures in light of the financial and P.R. benefit Sydney brings to his campus.

Her first year students get more out of her introductory class than most history majors do in four years. And her contact with them is not limited just to the campus. It wouldn't be unusual to find her at a local hangout, having a beer with a small group and mesmerizing them with stories of her trek to find the burial mask of King Agamemnon. The guys find more than her story mesmerizing.

Because of her reputation, Sydney is highly sought by a variety of people: secret government agencies, private collectors, museum curators, law enforcement officials, religious figures, politicians, the wealthy, the obsessed, the quirky, the criminal. The "work" is varied, unusual, and dangerous. What drives her to take on these assignments is a fascination with the history involved. And being a passionate and sympathetic person, she will take on seemingly lower profile cases if the stories move her emotionally as well.
